The Quick Lowdown:
Flavour: The perfect versatile garlic seasoning for vegetables, meat, croutons and garlic bread. It is mild enough for kids who often find garlic spicy but flavourful enough for adults looking for a tasty garlic add in.
Speed: Have restaurant style mix of garlic and herb seasoning made at home in less than 5 minutes. It takes more time to get out the spices than to mix them.
Difficulty: Beginner. This recipe only needs the skills of measuring dry ingredients with measuring spoons.
Why We Like This Recipe
One of the first restaurants I worked in had this fabulous garlic sauce they used on everything. It turned out it was just a package of dried garlic and herb seasoning mix that was mixed with melted margarine. Sometimes a splash of wine was added to make their signature sauce.
People were enamoured with this sauce and paid a lot of money to have their dinner cooked in a few pre-mixed dried spices. When I left that job I missed the garlic butter sauce made from the garlic herb seasoning. This recipe is my take on the garlic seasoning that I used to make vats of over the years I worked in that one kitchen.

Ingredients
- Garlic Powder
- Onion Powder
- Dried Parsley
- Smoked Paprika
- Sea Salt
See recipe card for quantities.

The Ingredient Low Down
Garlic Powder, Onion Powder, Dried Parsley
Use the dried spice version of all of these spices for this garlic herb seasoning. Do not replace them with fresh or frozen garlic, onion, or parsley. A fine or powdered version is best in this recipe.
Smoked Paprika
The smoked paprika gives this spice mix a lot of depth. You can switch it for mild paprika if needed for this garlic and herb seasoning.
Sea Salt
A fine salt is best for this garlic seasoning. It blends best with the rest of the spices well. Flaked or coarse salt will make the mix really salty in parts but not others. Sea salt or kosher will both work well for this mix.
Low Salt Option
If you are on a no or low salt eating plan a salt replacement that is allergy friendly can be used. You can also omit the salt if needed.
Instructions/ Directions and Tips

Measuring
Measure out all the spices.

Combine
Combine all ingredients in a small bowl. Mix well.
If you prefer you can make this right in a jar, if you are using it later on. Shake the spices in the jar well to combine the seasoning. It is entirely up to you and how you like to tailor this recipe to your needs.

Fill the Jar
Using a funnel, move the seasoning mx to an airtight jar for storage, if not being used immediately.
If you are making this seasoning to use right away, skip the jar and funnel, mix it in a bowl.

Equipment
- Small Bowl - to mix the dried spices.
- Funnel - This is the easiest way to not make a mess when pouring the garlic seasoning mix into the jar is to use a funnel. Don't choose one with a small bottom tube, it should be small enough to fit in the jar but wide enough you don't have to push the mix through the spout.
- Spice Jar with Lid - A glass food safe jar with an airtight lid is what we love to use for mixes like this garlic and herb seasoning recipe. When you are using a pungent spice, like garlic, glass can be better as it will not hold on to the smell like plastics do. If you prefer plastic you can use it, it may retain some of that garlic smell and impart it to other spice mixes stored in this container later on.

Spicy Variation
To make these a spicy garlic seasoning for meat, like chicken and steaks, add a bit of cayenne pepper to the mix.
Storage Instructions
Store the mixed garlic seasoning spices in an airtight jar in a cupboard or out of direct sunlight at room temperature. We do not recommend freezing or refrigerating this garlic herb seasoning. The spices can be stored for up to 6 months in a sealed glass container before they are stale.
